Hester Velmans translates contemporary Dutch and French literature into English. Her translation of Renate Dorrestein’s A Heart of Stone won the Vondel Prize in 2001; in 2014 she was awarded an NEA Translation Fellowship to translate the neglected novelist Herman Franke. She has translated over 20 novels for UK and US trade publishers, as well as short stories, essays, and other works.
