After working as an editor in publishing (Penguin, Weidenfeld, Doubleday), I moved to Amsterdam in 2004. Here I worked in publishing once again (Cossee, De Arbeiderspers) before becoming a full-time literary translator in 2013.
In 2020 I won the Vondel Prize for my translation of Sander Kollaard's STAGE FOUR and shared the International Booker Prize with Marieke Lucas Rijnveld for my translation THE DISCOMFORT OF EVENING.
I also work as a mentor for early-career translators and give translation workshops.
I am co-author of The Happiest Kids in the World (2017, non-fiction/parenting) which has been translated into 15 languages.
