Over mij

After working as an editor in publishing (Penguin, Weidenfeld, Doubleday), I moved to Amsterdam in 2004. Here I worked in publishing once again (Cossee, De Arbeiderspers) before becoming a full-time literary translator in 2013.

In 2020 I won the Vondel Prize for my translation of Sander Kollaard's STAGE FOUR and shared the International Booker Prize with Lucas Rijnveld for THE DISCOMFORT OF EVENING. In 2023 my translation of Barbara Stok's THE PHILOSOPHER, THE DOG AND THE WEDDING was awarded the inaugural Sophie Castille translation prize. In 2025, I shared the James Tait Black Memorial Prize with Lucas Rijneveld for MY HEAVENLY FAVOURITE. My translation of WE ARE LIGHT by Gerda Blees was shortlisted for the 2025 Dublin Literary Award.

I also work as a mentor for early-career translators and give translation workshops.

I write when I have time. The Happiest Kids in the World (2017, non-fiction/parenting) has been translated into 15 languages. My poetry pamphlet The North Wind was published in 2024.
