Book reviews are an essential part of the literary ecosystem. They play a huge part in helping books to find readers, particularly for international titles, which often don't have the advantage of lots of promotional events. And as a translator, writing reviews is a great way to put your name out there and pick up a bit of extra income, as well as a chance to scope out what books are being translated in your language pairing. Nonetheless, translators and reviews often have an uneasy relationship, with reviews all too frequently skimming over the existence of a translator. How can we better engage with translations in reviews, and what makes a good one?
