ESLT Summer School 2025
In the thirty years since the first publication of Lawrence Venuti’s groundbreaking study The Translator’s Invisibility, literary translators have made some notable progress towards greater recognition. But translators are being made to feel increasingly powerless by the rise of generative AI, which represents a major new threat to their livelihoods. So how can translators fight back, and how can the teacher of literary translation empower translators to fight back?
In this year’s edition of ESLT we will be considering topics such as how to build translator communities through social media, how to diversify the translator profession, how translators can protect and exploit their intellectual property, and how digital tools can be used to empower translators.
Programme
The ninth annual ESLT Summer School will take place online, bringing together around 25 translators and educators from across Europe who are passionate about teaching literary translation.
The three-day programme includes a mixture of lectures, seminars and workshops. Confirmed faculty participants include Miquel Cabal Guarro, Goedele De Sterck, Rosalind Harvey, Sawad Hussain, Andreas Jandl, Belén Santana and Teodora Tzankova.
The keynote will be delivered by Lawrence Venuti and will be a free public event.
